Our client is seeking an exceptional Senior Data Engineer to design and build the data platforms, pipelines and architectures that enable advanced analytics, AI and mission-critical decision making.
Working on challenging defence programmes, you will create scalable, resilient and high-performance data systems capable of supporting complex operational requirements. This is not a maintenance-focused position. The role is centred around solving difficult engineering problems, designing robust technical solutions and working alongside highly capable engineers across software, AI and data disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop and maintain scalable data platforms and pipelines
- Build reliable solutions for data ingestion, transformation, storage and processing
- Develop data architectures that support advanced analytics and machine learning workloads
- Work directly with customers and stakeholders to understand requirements and define solutions
- Enable AI and data science teams through the delivery of high-quality data infrastructure
- Design cloud-native data solutions using modern engineering practices
- Improve platform performance, reliability, security and observability
- Lead technical delivery across complex engineering initiatives
- Contribute to system architecture, technical strategy and engineering best practice
- Mentor engineers and support capability development across the wider team
Essential Requirements
- Significant commercial experience within data engineering, software engineering or a related discipline
- Strong experience designing and building production-grade data platforms and pipelines
- Proficiency in Python, SQL and modern data engineering technologies
- Experience working with cloud infrastructure and distributed systems
- Strong understanding of data architecture, data modelling and data management principles
- Experience implementing scalable ETL, ELT or streaming data solutions
- Excellent software engineering fundamentals including testing, automation and version control
- Ability to work closely with customers and stakeholders to solve complex technical problems
- Experience providing technical leadership and influencing solution design
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Adaptability and a willingness to work across multiple technologies and engineering domains
- Strong academic achievement in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or a related technical discipline
- Eligibility to obtain UK security clearance
