Senior Maintenance Technician

A well-established advanced manufacturing organisation based in Newcastle is looking to recruit a Senior Maintenance Technician to join its Engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing business operating in a highly automated production environment, supporting the reliability and performance of specialist manufacturing equipment.

Working on a permanent day shift, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining production uptime, improving equipment reliability, and supporting continuous improvement activities across the site.

The Role

Reporting into the Engineering function, the Senior Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, fault finding, repair and continuous improvement of a wide range of automated manufacturing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities in line with maintenance schedules.
• Diagnose and repair faults on automated production and assembly equipment.
• Respond effectively to equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Manage and maintain critical spare parts stock levels.
• Support machinery reliability and performance improvement initiatives.

Electrical & Electronic Maintenance

• Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, PLC, sensor and control system faults.
• Interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and technical documentation.
• Repair motors, drives, power supplies, control circuits and electrical panels.
• Assist with the installation and commissioning of new production equipment.
• Support equipment modifications and upgrade projects.

Mechanical Maintenance

• Investigate and repair mechanical faults on industrial machinery.
• Maintain bearings, belts, chains, conveyors, pneumatic systems and mechanical assemblies.
• Carry out equipment alignment, adjustment, lubrication and component replacement.
• Support machine rebuilds, refurbishments and continuous improvement projects.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve equipment reliability, efficiency and performance.
• Assist with root cause analysis of recurring faults.
• Participate in Lean Manufacturing, TPM and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and update maintenance management systems.

Health, Safety & Quality

• Work in line with all health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
• Adhere to safe isolation and lockout procedures.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organised working environment.

About You

Essential Requirements

• Experience within a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
• Strong electrical and electronic fault-finding skills.
• Mechanical maintenance experience on production machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
• Experience maintaining automated equipment and pneumatic systems.
• Recognised engineering qualification such as HNC, HND, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Electrical, Electronic, Mechatronic or Maintenance Engineering.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within automated, high-specification manufacturing environments.
• Knowledge of PLC diagnostics and industrial control systems.
• Experience with servo systems, robotics or machine vision technology.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing and TPM methodologies.
• IPAF, PASMA or IOSH certification.
• Experience using CMMS or maintenance management systems.
