Salary: From £28,000 per annum - Negotiable DOE
Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 16:30

They are seeking a proactive and hands-on Health & Safety Officer to support site operations and help drive a positive safety culture across manufacturing, warehouse, and yard environments.

The Role

As Health & Safety Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining a visible presence across site, ensuring health and safety standards are consistently met, promoting safe working practices, and supporting managers and employees with day-to-day health and safety activities.

The role combines practical shop-floor engagement with administrative responsibilities, making it ideal for someone who enjoys balancing operational support with compliance and reporting duties.

Key Responsibilities

Site Safety Inspections & Housekeeping

  • Conduct regular health and safety inspections across manufacturing, warehouse, and external yard areas.
  • Identify unsafe conditions and behaviours, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Monitor and improve housekeeping standards throughout the site.
  • Track outstanding safety actions and follow up on overdue items.
  • Support management teams during internal, customer, and regulatory audits.

Near Miss & Hazard Reporting

  • Promote a strong reporting culture by encouraging the identification of hazards and near misses.
  • Assist employees with completing reports and documentation.
  • Carry out basic investigations into incidents and near misses.
  • Ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out effectively.
  • Maintain accurate records of incidents, hazards, and associated actions.

Safety Administration

  • Maintain health and safety documentation, records, and site compliance files.
  • Keep training records up to date.
  • Support audit preparation activities.
  • Manage accident, incident, and near miss databases.
  • Produce regular weekly and monthly health and safety reports.

Training & Communication

  • Deliver health and safety inductions for new employees and contractors.
  • Assist managers in delivering toolbox talks.
  • Maintain safety noticeboards and communication materials.
  • Support site-wide safety campaigns and awareness initiatives.

Waste & Environmental Compliance

  • Conduct routine inspections of waste storage and disposal areas.
  • Ensure waste segregation procedures are followed.
  • Monitor waste documentation and collection records.
  • Identify and report environmental compliance concerns.

General Health & Safety Support

  • Act as a visible, approachable, and proactive presence across the site.
  • Escalate significant risks and concerns to the management team.
  • Support formal accident investigations when required.
  • Assist with contractor management, permit-to-work systems, and site access procedures.

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience within a manufacturing, warehouse, industrial, or production environment.
  • Good understanding of workplace health and safety principles.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence engaging colleagues at all levels.
  • Organised and methodical approach with strong administrative skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Ability to challenge unsafe behaviours in a professional and constructive manner.
  • Proactive, practical, and solutions-focused mindset.

Desirable Requirements

  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.
  • Previous experience conducting workplace inspections or supporting safety audits.
  • Experience participating in accident, incident, or near miss investigations.
  • Certificate of Higher Education or similar qualification.
