An established and growing construction business is looking to appoint an experienced Design Manager to support the successful delivery of a varied portfolio of commercial, industrial and build projects across the North East.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded professional to join a well-respected contractor and take ownership of the design process from initial feasibility through to project completion.

The Role

As Design Manager, you will play a key role in coordinating the flow of technical information between consultants, statutory bodies, subcontractors and internal departments, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly and in line with programme requirements.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and coordinating the design process across multiple projects
  • Producing and maintaining detailed design and approval programmes
  • Managing external consultants and design teams, including appointment, scope and fee negotiations
  • Coordinating planning, building control and statutory approvals
  • Ensuring technical information is issued accurately and within agreed timescales
  • Managing service applications, legal agreements, warranties, bonds and associated approvals
  • Providing technical advice and support during pre-construction and construction phases
  • Reviewing designs to ensure compliance with specifications, regulations and client requirements
  • Monitoring design progress against critical project milestones
  • Supporting and mentoring junior members of the design team
  • Identifying and implementing process improvements to enhance project delivery

About You

Applicants should have:

  • Previous experience in a Design Manager, Technical Manager or related role within construction
  • Strong knowledge of design coordination and project delivery processes
  • Experience managing consultants and multidisciplinary design teams
  • Good understanding of planning processes, building regulations and technical approvals
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach
