Assistant Management Accountant

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Produce balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end processes
  • Maintain strong financial controls and procedures
  • Ensure accurate processing and reporting of financial data
  • Support the wider finance team with ad-hoc duties
  • Monitor project costs and performance against budgets
  • Work closely with operational teams to ensure accurate cost recording
  • Review work in progress (WIP), accruals and project profitability
  • Ensure costs are allocated correctly across projects
  • Assist with VAT returns and related submissions
  • Support compliance with industry-specific regulations
  • Liaise with HMRC requirements where required
  • Ensure financial records remain accurate and compliant
  • Provide insight into project margins and financial performance
  • Support operational teams with financial information and reporting
  • Assist management with data-driven decision making

About You

Essential

  • Previous experience in a finance role with management accounting responsibilities
  • Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to identify issues and suggest process improvements
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
  • Confident communicator with the ability to build relationships across the business

Desirable

  • Experience within construction, engineering or project-based environments
  • Experience using cloud-based accounting software
  • Part-qualified accountant (AAT, ACCA or CIMA)
