Central Employment are partnering with a highly innovative engineering organisation specialising in advanced RF, microwave and millimetre-wave technologies, supporting critical communications across telecommunications, aerospace, defence and space sectors.
Due to continued growth and investment in next-generation connectivity solutions, they are seeking an experienced Senior Microwave Filter Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across complex filter and subsystem development programmes.
This role will take ownership of the full engineering lifecycle, from early-stage concept through to verification and production, ensuring robust, high-performance solutions are delivered in line with technical, commercial and programme requirements. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams and customers, contributing both strategically and technically to cutting-edge development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of RF and microwave filters and subsystems, covering simulation, prototyping and validation
- Take ownership of technical delivery across projects, ensuring alignment with performance, cost and schedule objectives
- Contribute to ongoing research and development of next-generation filter technologies
- Support commercial and bid activity through technical input, customer engagement and feasibility discussions
- Produce and review detailed engineering documentation including design logbooks, data packs and release documentation
- Drive design reviews, identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies where required
- Lead verification and validation activities, including test specification development, execution and reporting
- Maintain comprehensive design compliance documentation, ensuring traceability and audit readiness
- Support product introduction activities, including fault finding, root cause analysis and process improvement
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, manufacturing, test and systems engineering teams to deliver optimised solutions
Essential Requirements
- Degree qualified in RF, Microwave Engineering or a closely related discipline
- Proven experience in RF and microwave filter design within a high-performance engineering environment
- Strong knowledge of filter theory, tolerance and yield analysis, power handling considerations and design for manufacture
- Proficient in industry-standard RF design tools such as Microwave Office, CST Studio and Spark3D
- Hands-on experience of tuning and testing RF/microwave components using vector network analysers and associated equipment
- Experience delivering designs across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to production
- Strong problem-solving capability with a practical approach to engineering challenges
- Effective communicator, able to work collaboratively with internal teams and external customers
Desirable
- Experience working within aerospace, defence or high-reliability communications sectors
- Exposure to reliability analysis, including MTBF calculations and environmental testing
- Familiarity with structured product development processes such as NPI frameworks
- Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership within engineering teams
