Introduction to Construction, CSCS & Employability Programme

Looking to start a career in construction or improve your employment prospects?

Our fully funded Introduction to Construction and Employability Programme has been designed to help learners develop the practical knowledge, workplace behaviours and employability skills needed to take their first steps into the construction industry.

Delivered in South Tyneside and funded by South Tyneside Council, this programme is ideal for residents looking to gain a better understanding of the construction sector while developing the confidence and skills employers are looking for.

What Will You Learn?

Throughout the programme you will:

✅ Gain an introduction to the construction industry and the wide range of careers available

✅ Develop an understanding of construction site health and safety requirements

✅ Learn about PPE, risk assessments, manual handling, working at height and workplace hazards

✅ Understand how to work safely around construction plant, equipment and hazardous substances

✅ Develop teamwork, communication and problem-solving skills

✅ Explore construction trades, career pathways and progression opportunities

✅ Build confidence and workplace readiness

✅ Improve your employability skills, including CV development, job search techniques and interview preparation

✅ Prepare for future training, employment or apprenticeship opportunities within the construction sector

  • Mock CITB Health, Safety and Environment Test practice

Who Is This Course For?

This programme is suitable for individuals who:

  • Are interested in working within construction
  • Have little or no previous experience in the sector
  • Want to improve their confidence, skills and knowledge before applying for jobs
  • Are looking to move closer to employment, further training or an apprenticeship

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be aged 19 or over on 31 August 2026
  • Live in South Tyneside or the surrounding area
  • Not currently be enrolled on another government-funded training programme
