Job Title: Reverse & Design Engineer

Reporting To: Engineering Manager

Job Summary Central Employment is seeking a talented Reverse & Design Engineer to join a leading company in producing technical solutions for complex engineering projects. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in providing a full reverse engineering package for parts while supporting a busy production team. Utilizing various 3D scanning methods, you will capture detail from damaged, worn-out, and obsolete rotating equipment to create models leading to 2D drawings for manufacture or repair. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines without compromising quality or cost are essential. Some overseas and UK travel may be required for short periods.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use 3D scanning technology to create 3D CAD models from complex samples.
  • Utilize portable CMM (Faro Arm) and portable white light laser scanner to create 3D models.
  • Create 3D models from customer information/samples and first principal measuring.
  • Build full digital models with all mating features to establish fits and clearances.
  • Prepare design documentation for production, including component design and technical drawings.
  • Collaborate closely with other departments to provide relevant information as required.
  • Cross-check colleagues’ technical drawings to ensure compliance with company standards and samples.
  • Contribute to design reviews and refine 3D models within the product range.
  • Utilize Solidworks software to produce models and drawings.
  • Maintain existing design information using software packages.
  • Provide engineering support and technical guidance as and when required.
  • Store, manage, and file all information into relevant vaults as per company procedure.
  • Follow company processes and procedures on Health, Safety, and Environment.

Person Specification


  • Mechanical Engineering background: ONC/HNC/HND in mechanical engineering preferred.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes including casting, forging, machining, and metal fabrication.
  • Excellent 2D and 3D design skills with experience of Solidworks/design works/EPDM Vault.
  • Experienced in the use of CMM, Faro Arm, and 3D scanning technology.
  • Understanding and interpretation of engineering and drawing standards.
  • Understanding of pumps and rotating equipment.
  • Experience in the use of FEA would be an advantage.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proven ability to execute and deliver projects within specific time frames.
  • Ability to work within a team with initiative and minimum supervision.

  • Salary: Up to £38,000 per annum
  • Hours: 37 Hours per week, Monday to Thursday (07:30 – 16:00), Friday (07:30 – 12:30)
  • Pension: 3% Company contribution
  • Holidays: 25 days per year, plus bank holidays
  • Additional Benefits: Cycle to Work Scheme
