Amidst the chaos of 2020, demand for food banks has risen sharply. The Trussell Trust has estimated a 61% increase in demand over the winter months; handing out 6 emergency food parcels per minute.
Here in the North East, figures suggest more than a third of children are now living on the breadline. As a result of COVID-19, all kinds of charities and support groups have lost out on their usual streams of income, with an estimate of one in 10 UK charities facing bankruptcy by the end of the year.
Although 2020 has not been as we had hoped, it is more important than ever to give back where we can and remember those who are most in need.
A big, big thank you to everyone who got involved and donated at Central. Together we filled 3 trollies worth of supplies, from food to toiletries, which the food bank was over the moon with!
The Trussell Trust are a national organisation providing emergency food and support to people in poverty. They rely on a range of volunteers from giving out supplies, to those who help behind the scenes and this year they will be working harder than ever!
