Central Employment Donates to The Alexandra Centre

This Festive Season, Central Employment are proud to be supporting the Alexandra Centre at Sunderland Royal Hospital in their #NightwearBeforeChristmas appeal.

The Alexandra Centre is a centre of excellence to provide care for our patients with dementia and delirium by using an inreach/outreach service for cognitively frail in-patients. The Centre appealed for donations of nightwear for older patients who have no relatives to make Christmas special. The campaign was hugely successful last year and made a huge difference to the patients.

Central Employment donated 35 items of nightwear, plus toiletries to the campaign, and were pleased to visit the centre and deliver these. We are very proud of our team for getting involved in this and donating during the Festive Period!

Following successful campaigns the Alexandra Centre will also be launching a Dignity Room for Sunderland Royal Hospital staff to use and have access to clothes, toiletries, nightwear and footwear to patients who may be admitted to hospital at short notice or may have no relatives to bring them belongings. The patients are left to wear hospital pyjamas and gowns and often leave the patients open and vulnerable. The aim of the campaign is to improve patient experience and promote privacy and dignity and improve the patient’s self esteem. Patients who are feeling vulnerable are less likely to get up and move around, and for patients over 80 a week in bed can lead to 10 years of muscle ageing.
